Our Essentiality Score® patent licensing tool provides a method to calculates a score associated with a patent alledged to be essential to a technical standard (e.g., 3GPP, IEEE, MPEG, etc.), so-called "standard essential patents." Our tool looks at various factors typically associated with the creation of standard essential patents as well as several factors which tend to to indicate an illegitimate standard essential patent. Our tool provides an indiction of whether the claims of the the patent likely map to a techncial standard document. That is, to determine whether the patent claims are likely legitimately mapped to one or more essential features or functions described in key sections of a technical standard. Our tool also gives an indication of whether the patent is possibility just another bogus patent claimed to be essential to a technical standard document. We can examine individual patents or portfolios of patents to provide a score and a report explaining how the score was assigned. which can assist in patent licensing and litigation matters.
